Sarah Pye divulges that she doesn’t actually use a brush, how she connects to her paintings, and how she hopes to put a smile on your face, ahead of her exhibition in June.
When did you start painting and what motivates you?
I started painting fifteen years ago for pleasure. Seven years ago I gave up my job as a Gardener to paint full time. I’m motivated by nature, colour, light and life.
How would you describe your style?
Intuitive and impressionistic.
What do you consider to be the best painting you’ve ever done?
They are all unique, and there is something of me in each of them .
Do you find certain paper, paints or brushes make a big difference to how you paint?
I like paints with high-density pigments that retain their vibrancy, even when highly diluted. I don’t use a brush very often on the canvas, but I use a tatty chopped brush for dropping and splashing.
What has painting given back to you?
Peace, calm, and a fervent imagination…
What inspires your work?
Fresh air and the room to breathe.
What are you currently working on?
Huge wild flower meadows that make you feel as if you could wade your way through them!
What can we expect from your exhibition?
Big , bright, statement pieces to bring life and the outdoors into your home. Hopefully with a bold splash of colour and a smile 🙂
